Dear Reader,
I welcome you to the online version of the First Edition of our GIP (Global Internship Program) Journal 2009.
IKP Centre for Technologies in Public Health (ICTPH) is a Section-25, not-for-profit Company; registered under the Companies Act, 1956 at the IKP Knowledge Park, and a partner with the ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth. It aims to improve the health of poor populations by focusing on designing, developing and delivering innovative solutions in healthcare concerning India and the developing world. This is achieved through an inclusive process that scientifically integrates knowledge of factors influencing health and diseases in India, regular evaluation and impact assessment of existing health systems and integration of appropriate technology for optimal healthcare delivery. ICTPH aims to learn, discover and apply relevant innovative solutions for healthcare leading to improved health for the people of India and other developing countries and to integrate technological advances with delivery of affordable, accountable and accessible healthcare.
At ICTPH, we believe in facilitating a global platform for knowledge generation and dissemination. In our quest to achieve an international perspective the Global Internship Program at ICTPH invited interns from across the globe.
We were pleased with the overwhelming response from both national and international students. It was a remarkable learning experience for ICTPH to host interns from across the globe lending their diverse experience and expertise towards our organisation.
Amongst many others, we had representations from the Wharton School & the School of Nursing at University of Pennsylvania, Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, Cornell Institute for Public Affairs (CIPA) and Global Health Program (GHP) at Cornell University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and Delhi School of Economics.
Our effort to consolidate our learnings through various literature reviews, project proposals, and field-based action research projects anchored by our interns in close concurrence with their mentors at ICTPH, not only heightened our rigorous research practices but the output was also truly commendable enhancing the knowledge base at ICTPH.
The GIP Journal 2009 brings to you a collection of eight such articles. In this online version, the articles are listed on the left. Click on each title to read each complete Paper. You can also search for any content of interest across all the Papers using the Search feature at the top of the screen.
The cohesive assimilation of the background knowledge along with field observations mission aligned the papers towards momentous progress of our work at ICTPH.
I take this opportunity to sincerely thank all our interns and acknowledge the admirable effort of their mentors at ICTPH.
Sincerely,

Zeena Johar
President
